Kopin Corporation Career Opportunities |
Opportunity Snapshot
In this position you will enjoy a steady stream of fresh and engaging challenges as you help meet the rapidly growing demand for next generation thermal imaging products and other military and commercial applications. You'll enjoy the "best of both worlds:" the positive aspects of a smaller company -- such as the opportunity to make an impact on our small but highly talented Display Engineering group -- and the benefits of a growing (we are the nation's leading exporter of micro displays) and financially robust company. In addition you'll expand your skill base; for example, if you're not already familiar with display technology, you soon will be!
You will support, develop, and design electro/optical assembly and packaging for CyberDisplay® products, focusing primarily on tools, jigs, and fixtures for assembly and testing. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have significant mechanical engineering experience, including electro-optical devices, and a strong background supporting military programs. You also will need working familiarity with ProE or similar 3D CAD programs and experience with ECOs, configuration controls, and cleanrooms (we work at class 100). We're looking for a self-directed team player with solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with and train assembly operators.
As the largest US manufacturer of microdisplays for the US military, Kopin's displays are inside thousands of deployed systems including night vision goggles, helmet-mounted displays, thermal weapon sights and other battlefield systems, providing soldiers with a decisive combat edge. Kopin complements its strong technology with a solid balance sheet -- with more than $81 million in cash and marketable securities and no long-term debt. We have a solid team and a collaborative culture . . . but don't just take our word for it. Submit your resume, and if you are qualified you can meet with our people to find out why they wouldn't work anywhere else.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
Note on citizenship/immigration status: As a federal government contractor, we are subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and therefore you must be a US citizen or permanent resident to hold this position.
What's in It for You
Strong growth sector -- thermal imaging products are one of the fastest growing business segments in the company, and there is a mighty thirst for this technology. Last year we doubled our sales to the US military, and display revenue increased 56% to $30.7 million for the first six months of 2008, up from $19.7 million for the same period in 2007.
Broad exposure, diverse products -- we continue to be amazed at the wide range of innovative applications our customers propose. You will collaborate with prime government contractors like Raytheon, BAE Systems, and DRS Optronics.
Great work environment -- in addition to partnering with some of the best and brightest professionals in our industry, you enjoy a culture that is results oriented but also fun and casual. People love to come to work here, and our turnover is very low. Almost all of our senior leaders come from technical backgrounds, and they maintain "open door" policies in our flat, agile structure, meaning decisions are made quickly.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and discretionary bonus potential, we offer a comprehensive benefits package.
High tech hub -- you don't have to live in California to pursue a career on the leading edge of the semiconductor industry. Located 40 miles south of Boston and 20 miles east of Providence, Taunton, Massachusetts is a regional high tech hub. This modernity coexists with a rich tradition of history, stretching back to the city's founding in 1637.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
Reporting to the HLA Senior Manager, you will join a team of about 20 (including management, engineers, and operators) and contribute to multiple programs at any given time. This team is divided among several locations and, in fact, you will be the single ME in Taunton. There are three MEs on the West Coast, and they design the primary deliverables; you'll develop tools, jigs, and fixtures for testing and assembly here in the Taunton manufacturing plant. This will include supporting the factory floor, coordinating with Process Engineers, and training operators.
Kopin's CyberDisplay products are the world's only transmissive LCDs that use high-quality single-crystal silicon transistors. They have the world's highest pixel density, allowing the sharpest resolution for their size. Our ruggedized CyberDisplay products provide the highest performance in the harshest environments including extreme temperature ranges, gunfire shock and vibration, and high humidity conditions.
In general you'll work on programs for customers that build thermal weapon sights for the military, and we design and assemble the optics, including video display engine design, optics packaging, miniature mechanism design, electronic interconnect design, and hardware mounting and alignment design.
You'll support all phases of design for manufacturing, including CAD modeling, prototype assembly, first article production, and test. This will include presenting designs to management and customers in written and verbal form, and providing technical production support for assembly, tooling and supplier interface.
In addition, you will assume ownership of key documentation processes, including ProE models, drawings, test reports, analysis reports, ECOs, and more.
Keys to Success
